The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria!!

We had a fun field trip today to see a historical replica of the Nina and Pinta at the Port of Muskogee.  We had a great tour guide who was full of all kinds of historical facts.

We even got a latin lesson while we were on the poop deck! Do you know why it was called the poop deck? Well, our tour guide explained it comes from the Latin word Puppis. It's the area to the rear deck of a ship above the steerage. The Poop Deck is a ship's after-deckand it received its name from the old Roman custom of carrying Pupi (small images of their gods) in the stern of their ships for luck.
